Hi there, I'm Emma Charlotte.
Based in the beautiful rainforest region of the Northern Rivers NSW Australia.
I'm constantly inspired by the textures and tones of nature which I explore through art.
Originally from Northern England, my early years were spent in a small village often sitting at the feet of my neighbour - Mrs. Duerden - as she painted the most beautiful real-life oil works on canvas. I remember the smell like it was yesterday. If I wasn't there, I was running through the fields with friends, playing in streams and climbing trees.
My family came to Australia when I was ten years old. I have always loved to create, and my favourite place was always the stationery or craft store. My journey as an artist has been a winding one. I didn't always know that is what I wanted to focus on, because quite honestly - it wasn't. I wanted to be a Mum. That was always my dream.
I am now an incredibly proud mumma to four amazing humans, and one precious angel baby, and I have dedicated my life to them. Over the years as a way of making a bit of extra cash I painted pottery and sold to friends, or did a bit of photography. I briefly made greeting cards and wedding invitations, but nothing ever 'stuck'. I never considered myself an artist, it was always just to make ends meet so I could be with those gorgeous babies at home.
Well, fast forward to now, and those beautiful babies are grown, and I am now with a wonderful Tribal man, who is an amazing and prolific artist. Over the years he has encouraged me to focus on my own art and experiment more. I started selling my work alongside him at the local markets and beaches. Recently I made the decision to commit myself to making this my career, and actually give it a red hot go - I finally feel I AM an artist.
So, here I am, completely inspired, vulnerable and ready to share with a broader platform. It just feels like it's time. A couple of years ago we lost our angel baby, Billy, and art has really been my saving grace. A place to go when my heart needs lifting. The movement of the brush on the canvas, that smell of 'art in the air' that my childhood was soaked in - all of it - is so very incredibly healing, and all the dots finally connect and I feel finally aligned and at peace.
